How to Choose the Right Dental Website Platform
Not all website platforms are created equal — and when your website is the front door to your dental practice, the wrong choice can cost you patients and money.
What most dental practices get wrong
Many practices hand off their website to a general marketing agency or a low-cost template builder, without realizing they’re building on a foundation that limits them from day one. Lock-in, slow load times, duplicate content, and zero ownership are common outcomes.
The three platforms worth considering
1. WordPress (self-hosted)
The most flexible option, but it requires ongoing maintenance. Plugins, security updates, and hosting decisions add overhead. Great if you have a developer on call.
2. Purpose-built dental website platforms
Companies like Dental Intel and Legwork offer dental-specific templates and integrations, but you rarely own your content and are locked into their ecosystem.
3. Custom static sites (what we use)
Static sites built on frameworks like Astro give you full ownership, fast load times, and no lock-in. The tradeoff is higher upfront cost — but you own everything forever.
The question to always ask
Before signing any contract, ask: “If I leave, can I take my content and my domain with me?” If the answer is anything other than an unqualified yes, walk away.
